She’s back! Please welcome Tianna Holley for this weeks interview!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do when you’re not writing?
My children keep me pretty busy with their school and activities.
What do you do for leisure?
I enjoy baking and reading. I used to have a blog about healthy eating, and I grind my own wheat. I love to turn an unhealthy recipe into a healthy one. That includes freshly made cinnamon rolls and sweets. It’s all about the ingredients.
What made you decide to write?
I did not have a clue I’d be writing a novel until the week I sat down on my computer and started typing Unexpected Metamorphosis. I was in a very dark place in my life, and I guess the emotions had to find a way out. At first, I was only writing for myself, but my friend and I soon realized it was too good to keep to myself. I’m still amazed at what came from my emotional chaos.
What is something that you love to do that someone else may find a little shocking?
I’m very small and am a bit extreme when it comes to health food. Most people think I live off salads and have a Spartan diet. That is SO not the case. I love sweets and carbs, and I eat them all the time. That is why I have to grind my own wheat and cook for myself. My diet is full of chocolate chip muffins and cookies, just without any processed ingredients. That shocks a lot of people once they get to know me.
Tell us a little bit about your current project (can be current release).
Right now I’m working on the second book in the Alissia Roswell series. Then I plan to do a novella on one of the characters I’m introducing in this novel. After that, I plan to start on book three, while typing another novella with that same character.
I just got back from the Romance Novel Convention in Las Vegas, and that’s where I got the idea of writing a novella. Since I’ve been home, that idea has evolved into two novellas. I’m excited about them, because my readers will get to see what transformed this new character into the heartless person she has become. Not only will my readers be following Alissia, they will be following this other character in the novellas.
It is extremely complicated having two main characters alongside each other in a set of novels and novellas, and I’m very excited about this challenge, although I’m sure I’ll hate myself many nights when trying to put it all together.
I can’t wait to get them out there and see how others react to her. She’s just as complicated as Alissia, if not more. I’m curious to see if my readers can go from hating a character, to loving one.
How did you decide the genre?
I love reading and watching anything fantasy. If I need an escape from reality, I need a real escape. I love writing fantasy, because I can make anything up. There are no rules to follow, and there’s more freedom for me to create things.
Did you find any drawbacks or snags while writing that made you learn something new or a new method to writing?
I’ve learned I don’t like descriptive writing as much as I do action and dialogue. It took me a week to edit a ball scene in Unexpected Metamorphosis, because I had to research the clothing, jewels, and such. I had to put so much detail in describing everything. It was very tedious, but worth it.
About the Author
Who is Tianna Holley? I am a wife, mother and author living outside of Atlanta, Georgia. When I’m not writing, I love to bake with freshly ground wheat and travel to new places.
The fantasy genre has always been a favorite of mine, and you can see that by the books I read and the movies I watch. I can easily get lost in another world and spend an entire night reading until I’ve made it to the end, even at the cost of exhaustion the very next day. Some stories are just too hard to put down and walk away from.
After leaving my career as a paralegal over thirteen years ago, I have spent my time home schooling and caring for my children at home. Call it a midlife crisis or my passion of writing has finally caught up with me, but I am now taking the leap of faith and doing what I love. Reading has always been an escape for me, and now I have passionately fallen for writing.
There you have it folks! Time for you to bring your questions and comments forward!
